Changelog
Every substantive change to DaysTo, newest first, with the date it was applied and the reason for it. Date corrections always appear here, however small, so that anyone who reported one can see it was acted on. If you have spotted something wrong, tell us.
| Date | What changed | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 2026-08-05 | Split the four season pages from the four equinox and solstice pages. /days-until/spring, summer, autumn and winter now count to the meteorological start of the season, on the first of March, June, September and December. The equinox and solstice pages keep the astronomical dates. | Both pages in each pair counted to exactly the same day, which made four pairs of near-identical pages and answered only half the question. The meteorological and astronomical starts are a real, documented distinction, so publishing both is more useful than publishing either twice. |
| 2026-08-05 | Added a dating rule, an observed-in note and, where one could be verified, a linked primary source to all 68 countdown pages. Pages without a verified source now say so. | A site that publishes dates has to be able to say where they come from. Stating openly that a date is our own convention is more honest than implying an authority that was never checked. |
| 2026-08-05 | The day count in the sentence at the top of each countdown page is now recalculated in the browser against the visitor's own local date. | The page is rendered on the server on a daily cycle, so the number in the HTML could be a day old, and a visitor in another time zone could see a number that did not match their own calendar. It now does. |
| 2026-08-05 | Added a ten-year date table with weekdays to every countdown page, plus a list of what else falls within a fortnight of it. | The weekday for a future year is the thing people actually look up, and it is not something the counter alone can answer. |
| 2026-08-05 | Published free JSON data files with the event rules and the ISO week calendars, and documented them at /api-docs under CC BY 4.0. | The machine-readable ISO week calendar in particular barely exists elsewhere, and data that can be cited is worth more than another calculator page. |
| 2026-08-05 | Added ISO week calendar pages for 2020 to 2035 at /week-numbers/{year}, and a calendar download button on every countdown page. | Week numbers are everyday currency in Northern Europe and badly served online. The calendar download is the one thing a visitor to a countdown page actually wants to take with them. |
| 2026-08-05 | Added /privacy, /contact, /embed and this changelog. robots.txt now states a position on AI crawlers and no longer blocks the embed widget. | The site claimed to be private with no page to back it up, had no way to report a wrong date, and blocked the one route that could earn it a link. |
| 2026-07-03 | Countdown pages moved to periodic server regeneration, and past events now roll forward to the next occurrence. | The day count was being frozen at build time. |
