About the countdown to the Autumn Equinox
The equinox instant drifts slightly each year and can land on September 22 or September 23, so we anchor the countdown to September 22 for a steady target.
As the Sun crosses back over the celestial equator, days begin to shorten in the north and lengthen in the south, where the date instead marks the beginning of spring.
The counter above reads from your device clock and refreshes every second, so the days, hours, minutes and seconds always reflect the time remaining right now. The next the Autumn Equinox falls in ISO week 38 of 2027. When the day arrives the page says so instead of showing a zero, and from the following day it moves its target to 2028, so the countdown never runs out of road.
