About the countdown to World Oceans Day
The idea was proposed at the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio, and the United Nations formally recognized the day in 2008.
The day highlights the ocean's role in supporting life on Earth and the need to reduce plastic pollution and overfishing.
The counter above reads from your device clock and refreshes every second, so the days, hours, minutes and seconds always reflect the time remaining right now. The next World Oceans Day falls in ISO week 23 of 2027. When the day arrives the page says so instead of showing a zero, and from the following day it moves its target to 2028, so the countdown never runs out of road.
